Why Being Fit When Bow Hunting Is Important!

Below you'll find out the prime reason why you want to be in shape come bow season.

If you're not in shape, then follow his simple advice by starting with the first step.  Walking just 30 minutes a day 5 days a week is a great way to start getting yourself into shape.  You want to make sure you get your heart-rate up though.

We'll be including these article by Tim on a regular basis since right now it's the summer and most of the hunting we'll talk about occurs in a few months.

Get motivated and Move Out! :)

Taking The First Step

by: Tim Dickerson

Shooting a bow, like anything else, requires the proper foundation. Certainly, practice on the standing and 3D ranges are vital elements but so is preparing physically. Why prepare yourself physically for shooting and hunting? Consider for a moment what many would classify as the hunt of a lifetime. The Wyoming sky is a clear, brilliant blue with only a few clouds hovering overhead. The wind is in your favor and that big bull elk is five hundred yards to east, bugling his head off. The only thing standing between you and the trophy of a lifetime is a climb up the other side of that ravine where you can set up, bugle him in, and take the shot. You're almost up the other side, breathing hard, when you realize the animal unexpectedly moved your way. You stop, draw your bow, but can't hold steady. The 6x6 only presented himself for a few seconds and you were too winded to make the shot. If only you would have spent some time before the hunt getting into shape. You might be in the center of a camera lens so Bob and guys could post your picture on bowhuntinginfo.com instead of trying to come around on that bull for the second time.

Warm Weather Makes for Easy Scouting

Take advantage of the weather depending on where you live.

If you're anything like me, you're the type who does most of the their hunting in the fall months and spend your time fishing during the summer.

Well, I thought I'd pass along a couple of tips that you might want to consider.

Spend some time out in the woods this summer and get to know where your buck likes to roam. You can even buy one of those fancy infrared cameras to take pictures when your animal walks by.

You've got plenty of time now to scout out a lot of locations.

Bear season is coming up first though, so why not use the camera to find ya one. You might even be able to find a nice stand where you can set up an ambush.

We've got a number of Big Game seasons here in Washington State as I'm sure you do where you live.

The main point of all of this is to start planning for your hunts now so that when the hunting time comes you can spend it hunting and not scouting!

What's The Largest Deer Ever Taken Down By A Bow?

Wow! That's a Huge Buck! Great short story about how Greg stalked and killed this beast! Way to go Greg!

Does This Record Still Stand?

-Michael

RECORD BOW BUCK

A buck mule deer in velvet that was
harvested by an archer south of Ely in
August is the largest deer ever taken
during an archery hunt in North America.
It also holds the record for being the largest
archery deer harvested in Nevada. Both
records are verified by the Pope & Young
Club, which is recognized as the official
repository for records on bow-harvested
North American big game.

Greg Krogh of Arizona took the trophy
buck in White Pine County in big game
management unit 221 on Aug. 8. The deer
was in velvet, meaning the antlers were
covered with a velvet-type material that
had not yet been rubbed off by the animal.

Krogh and friend Randy Ulmer were
elk hunting in the area in August 2003
when Randy first spotted the large deer.
Krogh decided then to apply for the tag
draw in unit 221 for the 2004 season.

“After unsuccessfully looking for the
buck over a total of 26 days between
August 2003 and August 2004, I finally
located him the day before hunting season
opened,” Krogh recalls. “We followed him
the next day, but he was among 11 other
bucks, and I never had an opportunity for
a good stalk,” he says. “The second day
of the season he left the herd with two
others. I stalked him when he bedded in
some boulders, and got above him. He
stood up and began to walk out, and that’s
when I got him.”

Like many sportsmen, hunting is part
of Krogh’s family heritage. His father was
also a licensed guide. Krogh began
bowhunting at the age of 10.

The buck has been officially scored
at 202 2/8 by the Pope & Young Club. The
gross score before deductions for and a
60-day drying period) was 207 7/8.

Bow Hunter Ted Nugent Chases Chickens In Funny Video...

Hey ya'll,

This guy is funny as hell! Check out this video making fun of Ted Nugent...

He pokes fun at what would happen if Ted woke up one morning and lost his bow. Quite hilarious! There is a little profanity toward the end of the video, so be warned, however watching this guy chase after the chicken and the goat is well worth it!

Enjoy,
Michael
