What the biggest mistake hunters make when glassing?
Hey folks,
Found this interesting article in my local Fishing and Hunting News magazine. Thought they raised a few great pointers about optics and glassing. A good part of scouting can be done by just sitting still and glassing. Be patient and wait!
Enjoy,
Michael

F&H News: What optics do you carry with you while hunting?
KP: I carry 15x56 Swarovski binoculars and an 80mm spotting scope.
F&H News: Why are high quality optics so important?
KP: With the cheaper stuff, you are never going to have the clarity. When you have rain and are using cheap optics, you are going to get moisture. When you have low light, you need high-powered binoculars. I can't glass for hours with a pair of the low-end stuff. They put more strain on your eyes.
F&H News: How do you find big game?
KP: When I first start glassing an area, it's first thing in the morning or late in the afternoon. I look for water areas and feed areas. I use a wide field of view at the beginning and when I see something I zoom in closer.
F&H News: How long do you glass a particular spot?
KP: I will sit and scan for hours at a time, I"ll work one draw and then look at another.
F&H News: What the biggest mistake hunters make when glassing?
KP: Not taking their time, and being impatient. I've sat in a spot for hours and not seen anything, then spotted a buck just as I was getting ready to leave. People get impatient and want to walk and walk. You are not going to see as many deer as when you sit and watch.
